Photoshop illustration representing Captain America's shield, as depicted on the cover of The Avengers #4 (March, 1964). In the character's first official Silver Age appearance, the shield's color scheme differed from the more familiar version, with two pairs of red and white stripes enclosing the central star (the interior art differed slightly from the cover as well). This design was the third of at least four different variants employed between 1941 and the present day. No copyright was violated in the production of this image. Stars, stripes, colors and geometric shapes are not subject to individual copyright.
