Так как Индия получила независимость в 1947 году Индийский национальный конгресс (ИНК) наблюдается устойчивый ряд расколов и сепаратистских группировок. Некоторые из отколовшихся организаций процветали как независимые партии, некоторые прекратили свое существование , а другие объединились с материнской партией или другими политическими партиями .
