Высокой шерифом является самым старым светским офисом под короной (до 1974 года офис ранее известный как шериф ). [1] Раньше верховный шериф был главным офицером правоохранительных органов в округе, но на протяжении веков большая часть обязанностей, связанных с этой должностью, была передана в другое место или в настоящее время не функционирует, так что его функции теперь в основном церемониальные. Шериф меняется каждый март.
