During the 2018–19 season, after 43 games with the Devils' AHL affiliate in Binghamton, Bastian received his first recall to New Jersey on January 19, 2019.[3] He made his NHL debut that night, getting into his first fight against Josh Manson in a 3–2 defeat to the Anaheim Ducks at the Prudential Center.[4] With the All-Star break approaching, Bastain was returned to the AHL following his lone appearance.[5] On February 25, he scored his first NHL goal against the Montreal Canadiens, in a 2–1 win.
