Coordinates in the UNESCO site N42 15 44 E42 42 59 (http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/710) and the old coordinates in this article (42 15 42 N 42 43 01 E) obviously do not point to the monastery. UNESCO evaluation report (http://whc.unesco.org/archive/advisory_body_evaluation/710.pdf) says the monastery is 12 km from Kutaisi (page 2 of the pdf). Some travellers say in their blogs that the distance is under 10 km. I have not found maps or satellite images accurate enough nor aerial photos wide enough to locate the monastery accurately. MapGuest (new coordinates, zoom in to see place name Gelati) and perhaps a map (very low quality scan) in the evaluation report (page 5 of the pdf) show Gelati inside the same river bend (but not in the same location exactly). New coordinates are approximate (accuracy about 1 km). This place is about 6 km NE from Kutaisi, so there is still a slight discrepancy considering the distance. --AB-fi 13:57, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
