Place this at the top of a section that has grown too large and has been split but not yet summarized. It can also be placed at the top of a new article that is the result of a split, if the article still needs post-split cleanup such as a proper lead section, link and citation repair, etc.
|section= with any value (such as y or true) changes the text "article or section" to just "section".
|date={{subst:DATE}} or |date=March 2024 stamps the template with the month and year it was placed in the article.
