На момент создания UFC в 1993 году смешанные единоборства не были санкционированы в США и не включали весовые категории . Вместо традиционной модели чемпионата UFC проводила турниры, в которых победитель получал постоянное название. В 2000 году Атлетический комитет штата Нью-Джерси полностью взял на себя регулирование ММА в своем родном штате и разработал новые правила и весовые категории, которые в конечном итоге стали фактическим набором правил для всех смешанных единоборств. [6] UFC изменила свои весовые категории в соответствии с этими новыми правилами в 2001 году, начиная с UFC 31 .   1. ^ Woodley successfully defended the UFC Welterweight Championship three times and retained the title once following a draw against Stephen Thompson at UFC 205.

  3. ^ Barão successfully defended the interim UFC Bantamweight Championship twice before being promoted to undisputed champion and defending his title once more.

Missed Weight Title Fights[edit]

There have been multiple instances in UFC history where a fighter misses the required weight limit for a championship fight. The following fights were originally scheduled and advertised as title fights, with the contenders earning a title shot, but due to a fighter missing weight these fights took place, only one fighter was eligible to win, or the fight was changed to a non-title fight.
