Talk:Quadracycle

The name of this article has a bit of a history. It was started on 22 June 2004 by User:Monedula under the article name of Quadricycle. The content was moved to Quadracycle (Human powered) by me on 5 December 2008. This move was a result of a talk page discussion that started because information on European motorised quadricycles was added to the pedal-powered quadracycle information. The decision was made then to turn Quadricycle into a disambiguation page and move the motorised information to Motorised quadricycle. I chose the title Quadracycle (Human powered) at that time, because I believed the spelling with an "a" instead of an "I" was the most prevalent. The article was then moved again to its present title Quadricycle (human-powered vehicle) by User:The Man in Question on 24 June 2009, without discussion or an edit summary to explain why the move was made.

Subsequently the word "quadracycle" throughout the article was changed to "quadricycle" even when it was part of a company name. The company names have since been rectified.

Since the move I have completed sourcing references on the names used for this class of human-powered four wheeled vehicles by past and present manufacturers and added that information to the article along with over thirty refs. I think it can bee seen from that section that there is no agreement on what these vehicles should be called and in fact I have catalogued 15 different terms applied by manufacturers.

What is clear, however, is that the term quadricycle (with an "i") is very much a minority term and that quadracycle (with an "a") is the most commonly used term and has been for more than 150 years.

This background all leads me to suggest that the article should not be named after the less used and less well-known term Quadricycle. The Wikipedia guidelines on article naming unambiguously indicates that articles should "Use the most easily recognized name". Therefore, based on the guidelines and the research now incorporated in the article, I propose that the article be renamed Quadracycle (human powered vehicle).

Since this is obviously a contentious issue I would like to hear from other editors on this matter. - Ahunt (talk) 22:53, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
