В биологической номенклатуре организмы часто получают научные названия в честь человека. Таксон (например , вид или род , множественное число: таксонов) , названный в честь другого лица является одноимённый таксон , а имена специально в честь человека или лица известны как отчества . Научные названия обычно официально публикуются в рецензируемых журнальных статьях или более крупных монографиях вместе с описаниями названных таксонов и способами их отличия от других таксонов. Следуя правилам латинской грамматики , названия видов или подвидов, полученные от имени человека, часто оканчиваются на -i или -ii.если названо для человека, и -orum, если названо для группы мужчин или смешанной группы, такой как семья. Точно так же, те , названный в честь женщины часто заканчиваются -AE или -arum для двух или более женщин.

В этот список входят организмы, названные в честь известных людей или ансамблей (включая группы и комедийные труппы), но исключаются компании, учреждения, этнические группы или национальности , а также населенные пункты. В него не входят организмы, названные в честь вымышленных существ, биологов или других естествоиспытателей ^{[примечание 1],} а также сотрудников или членов семей исследователей, которые не являются примечательными в других отношениях.
